Weekly Roundup : First Edition!

On our website this week, I highlighted our new blog strategy and I hope you will join me next week for the first full week of our new style. I will be posting an "Energy Jolt" blog about energy policy on Tuesdays, a "Pork Platter" blog about pork barrel spending on Thursdays, and a weekly "Wrap Up" will be posted and emailed on Fridays. In this week's pork platter, we exposed a $1,000,000 pork barrel earmark for research on extraterrestrial intelligence. Below is some information that wasn't covered in the blog but deserves mention:

1) The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is launching an initiative this fall to begin a conversation with people who provide care for a loved one, friend or neighbor. To register for the webcast, scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 12:00- 1:00p.m. (Eastern Time), visit www.medicare.gov/caregivers.

2) A Child Is Missing, INC. was the recipient of an Edward Byrne Memorial grant award from the Department of Justice (DOJ). This grant will help address the serious problems associated with missing children.

3) YouTube finally yanked radical Islamist group videos from its site after my colleagues and I urged Dr. Eric Schmidt Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Google, Inc./YouTube to do so in a letter sent May 2008.

4) I signed on as a cosponsor to Rep. Maloney's bill HR 6548, to establish a permanent home for the National Women's History Museum in Washington, DC.  This was a no cost bill simply provides that NWHM will pay fair markey value for the GSA-controlled lot and privately fund ALL construction.

Thank you for reading our wrap for this week, and I encourage everyone to leave comments and check back next week.
